Dear Donor,
Horizon Wonders is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization devoted to reducing the negative impacts associated with
poverty and lack of access to essential human services among individuals living
in Africa’s Sub-Saharan countries. Founded in 2004, the organization is based
domestically in Waukesha, Wisconsin and operates an outstanding learning center
in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. Our services allow the
disadvantaged individuals we reach attain the basic assistance they need to
thrive and achieve personal, economic, and wellness transcendence from their
current impoverished status.
Our mission is to provide skills and
essential human services to poor individuals so they can become marketable and
employable individuals. We feed the poor who are starving and pay medical
treatments of the poor who are suffering and dying from preventable sicknesses.
Our organization provides a
comprehensive list of services to individuals in need. We believe that through
the provision of basic human needs and services, any individual can find the
will and empowerment to thrive despite adversity and setbacks. We are committed
to giving the individuals we reach the tools to step forward into a new phase
of self sufficiency in their lives; creating independence rather than
dependence.
The overall objective of the
organization and its initiatives is to improve the lives of those in need beginning
with the most essential needs they possess. Firstly, our organization is
committed to providing food to families suffering from the ill effects brought
about by hunger. The organization has developed an innovative marketing
partnership with local vendors to help families in need. We will provide
“market tickets” that allow families to acquire food for their homes. These
tickets are redeemed by the vendors at our facility to pay for the products
sold.
After providing the means for
adequate nourishment, our organization will also work to provide medical care
assistance to our program participants. Health
care and wellness education is not a readily available asset to those in the
disadvantaged population. According to a report published by the Harvard School
of Public Health, there is a growing disparity in health care, despite the
fantastic advances medicine the over the past 50 years. The report states that
poor people have lower life expectancies, higher prevalence of chronic
illnesses and health conditions, and more unmet health needs than people with
higher incomes.[1]
These results are true in the United
States and are mirrored throughout the world. Our organization will make
particular focus on those individuals suffering from HIV and AIDS.
Individual empowerment and
self-determination have always been strong components of the organization. We
believe that we should help individuals in need by assisting them in seeking
self improvement. Our organization has initiated efforts to educate the
individuals we reach to become proficient in computer operating skills. We
focus on training individuals in the basic operations of Microsoft Office
applications. By helping individuals acquire these skills, we can help them
achieve their own personal empowerment, which will in turn create an extended
and profound impact on the lives of those around them.
In an effort to realize our vision,
the organization has recently completed the development of a comprehensive
strategy to serve our community. Our specific objectives were developed from
the input and experience of our organization’s board as well as other
constituents. We have set ambitious yet realistic goals to make this profound
impact. Our goal is to raise funds to assist the general and practical
operations of our organization’s endeavors.
We believe that by accomplishing
this goal, we will make a positive impact on the lives we serve and the service
communities at large. The impact of our goals serves a two-fold purpose,
providing needed services and support to those in need and continuing those
services through external growth by motivating our service population to return
to our organization and contribute through volunteer efforts. We expect that
this will lead to long-term benefits for the community and perpetual success
and sustainability for our organization. Any donation can be made at our
secure website www.horizonwonders.org
